These three points carry most of the traffic in any kitchen. The distances between them, and whether anyone has to cross a busy path to get from one to another, matter more than almost any finish decision. This is the first thing we brainstorm during the in-home consultation.
Storage measured against what you own
Cabinet runs should be planned from an inventory, not an average. Deep drawers for pots, vertical dividers for trays, a pantry that fits the way you shop. Interior organisers are far cheaper to design in than to retrofit.
Lighting in layers
Ambient light for the room, task light over the work surfaces, and accent light where it earns its place. Under-cabinet lighting in particular is a wiring decision that has to happen before the drywall closes.
Power where you use it
Small appliance loads, island outlets, charging points and dedicated circuits are electrical rough-in decisions. They are simple during the remodel and disruptive afterwards.
Then choose the finishes
Once the room functions, cabinetry, countertops and backsplash are a pleasure rather than a gamble. The selections sit on top of a layout you already know works.
